OAKLAND-There is a very good reason why the Chicago Bulls spent their number draft choice on a freshman.

Derrick Rose, who led the University of Memphis Tigers to the NCAA Championship this past April was born and raised in Chicago and the other is because he is a talented player.

The rookie scored 23 of his 25 points in the second half, as the Bulls defeated the Golden State Warriors 115-110 before a sellout crowd of 19,596 at Oracle Arena.

Larry Hughes scored 26 points, including five three-pointers and Oakland native Drew Gooden added 18 points and grabbed 16 rebounds.

Stephen Jackson scored 32 points, while Corey Maggette added 24 points and Andris Biedrins began a new double-double streak by grabbing 23 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

Anthony Morrow scored just six points , while another rookie Anthony Randolph scored 10 points and blocked four shots.

The Warriors were without the services of Kelenna Azubuike, who sat out the game with a sprained left knee.

Earlier in the day, disgruntled forward Al Harrington was traded to the New York Knicks for guard Jamal Crawford.
