With season done so will be the case for most W's personnel

OAKLAND-Everybody kind of forgets that Joe Lacob and Peter Gruber the new owners for the Golden State Warriors didn't take over until almost the beginning of this season. This is a group that got final approval for the deal in late August, early September.

That really wasn't enough time to make a substantial change in the management of the team and the in the personnel of the front office as well as making significant progress towards picking a new head coach.

Because they signed on so late they were kind of a force to go with Keith Smart as the head coach because Smart was already in house and he had so much experience coaching under former head coach Don Nelson when he was sick last season.

Frankly the players liked Smart, there simply was not a lot of time prior to the beginning of the season for the Warriors to go out and do a full search of every head coaching candidate so it was just easier for the Warriors to go with Smart and give him a trial run and see what happens.

Looking back on this season finishing up with 35 wins this is a team that pretty much performed as expected I said at the beginning of this season we should expect a mid 30s win team and their hitting that right on the nose with 35 wins.

This is a team that is still fun to watch on the offensive side. If you have any appreciation for defensive basketball this is not the team that plays good defense. We saw flashes of decent defense over the course of the season but that's with a coach who was there at the beginning of the season with Smart.

Smart didn't have the opportunity to install a full on offensive scheme that would really help this squad and they really never bought into it and frankly this isn't a team that has talented defensive players. They're a couple of guys that are okay and one of those guys from the 2010 NBA draft like Ekpe Udoh.

He's clearly a cut above NBA defender the rest of the team is simply not good on the defensive side and it shows. This is a team that does well on defense when they're making a concerted effort that simply doesn't appear possible for them to do that every single night.

So if you look at what the changes might be in the off season from the players side you have to imagine that if it's free agency or the draft this team is going to look at guys who are going to be good defenders and guys who are going to rebound. Those are really the three main areas and they all kind of overlap each other than that those are the three main areas the Warriors need to look at if they want to improve.
