Nellie needs two more with seven left

OAKLAND--The Warriors have been playing reasonably well lately not that they have had the toughest opponents but they've been playing alright and they have games against some mediocre teams. So there is certainly an opportunity for them to win.

Looking at the rest of the schedule they only have to win two games to break the record and two to tie. They have games against Washington, Minnesota, and the Clippers, any of those games they have an opportunity to win. All three of those games are on the road.

Final games are against Oklahoma City and against Utah and while it's entirely possible the Thunder and Utah will wrap up playoff positions at that point and they won't have any incentive to play all of their starters, so in those games the Warriors might have a shot.

Oklahoma City and Utah are relatively good teams compared to the Warriors especially so nothing is assured. Don Nelson certainly has his chance with games Friday and Sunday to at the very least tie Lenny Wilkins as the winningest head coach in NBA history.

So we'll have to see he has the opportunity with seven games, so a 333. winning percentage with seven remaining games remaining that could be a bit of a tall order because that's higher than the Warriors current winning percentage but it is possible.

The Warriors have some mediocre opponents that they are going to be playing so they'll have a chance to win those games and Don Nelson will have a chance to go into the record books.

It's worth noting however that while Nelson will probably tie Wilkins or pass Wilkins for most wins it’s not likely that Nellie is going to hold the record long because you have a couple of guys with Jerry Sloan at Utah and Greg Poppovich in San Antonio, and even the Lakers Phil Jackson all three of those guys have a lot of wins and any one of those guys could eventually pass Nelson.

This could happen in the next five years any one of those guys could actually pass Nelson for most wins it's almost kind of a hollow record because Nellie will hold it briefly and then he's left in the dust possibly by one of those guys and maybe by all three of them.

So while it's admirable to get the record it's not know if Nellie could hold it for all that long just because there are so many other fantastic coaches waiting in the wings to take it from.
