Wouldn’t you know that reigning NBA Most Valuable Player Dirk Nowitzki would make his return to the court for the Dallas Mavericks against the Golden State Warriors.

In what could be classified as one of the biggest games of the season, the Warriors fell flat on their behinds and the Mavericks simply destroyed them 111-86 at the American Airlines Center.

Jason Terry scored 31 points, equaling his season high, while Josh Howard added 28 for the Mavericks, who move two full games ahead of the Warriors for the seventh spot in the Western Conference playoff chase.

To make even worse, the Warriors fell one full game behind the Denver Nuggets for the eighth and final spot.

In 27 minutes of action, Nowitzki scored 18 points, and grabbed five rebounds in his first action since spraining his left ankle 10 days ago.

Jason Kidd scored five points, grabbed 11 rebounds and dished off a season-high tying 17 assists, as the Mavericks improved to 11-10 since Kidd was acquired from the New Jersey Nets

Monta Ellis led the Warriors with 27 points, and Baron Davis added 20; however they received very little support for their teammates.

Stephen Jackson went just 1-for-11 from the floor, and scored just two points,, while Al Harrington scored just six points on 1-for-9 shooting from the floor.

With the loss to the Mavericks, the Warriors lost back-to-back games for the first time since losing to the Mavericks on January 2, and to the New Orleans Hornets on January 4.
