History Lesson: SF RB Frank Gore plowed for 130 yards and a TD as the Niners upended Detroit 31-13 in week 3 of last season. The 49ers have captured 11 of the past 12 meetings with the Lions and hold a 34-27-1 series advantage… Last week the 49ers lost a 27-13 fizzler in Philadelphia… The Lions were beaten 31-24 by the Cardinals.

The Good Guys: QB Alex Smith wants a strong finish to head into 2010 with a blast of steam. He’ll get a break against Motown who are last in the NFL in pass defense… Though the Niners will miss the playoffs for the seventh straight season in 2009, wins in the final two games will give the club an 8-8 record… TE Vernon Davis leads all TEs with 8 TD receptions… RB Gore now has 942 rushing yards on the season…

The Bad Guys: With his 54 catches, WR Calvin Johnson has 802 yards to his credit this season… The Lions have lost 19 straight road games… DB Louis Delmas ran back an INT for 100 yard TD last week vs. Arizona… Overall No. 1 pick QB Matthew Stafford has thrown 13 TDs…
