Arizona Cardinals (8-4) at San Francisco 49ers (5-7)
Monday, Dec. 14, 5:30 p.m.
Radio KNBR-AM 680
TV – ESPN, CBS-5
History Lesson: Back on opening day, the Niners grounded the Cardinals 20-16… Arizona has won six of the last nine meetings however… But… the 49ers lead the all time series 20-16… Last week SF dropped a close one to Seattle 20-17… The Cards bombed the Vikings 30-17.
The Good Guys: Since taking over as starting QB Alex Smith has finally begun to show his value – not surprisingly, it’s come it the shotgun formation where he made his name as a collegiate super-star… Rookie WR Michael Crabtree has at least three receptions in his seven NFL starts. He’s second on the team with 32 catches… TE Vernon Davis has averaged 12.4 yards on his 63 catches… With the Niners recent shift to the pass oriented offense, RB Frank Gore may not make it to 1,000 yards for the first time in his NFL career. He has 668 yards with four games remaining.
The Bad Guys: Over his last four games Cards QB Kurt Warner has a 120-plus passer rating which might make for a great day vs. the Niners and their 27th ranked pass defense… LB Adrian Wilson is the man on defense for Arizona and he’ll do his best to slow TE Vernon Davis… Dangerous duo WR Larry Fitzgerald and Anquon Boldin have 83 and 63 receptions respectively.
