OAKLAND-Rex Grossman was on the sidelines, and was probably wondering when he get his chance to play again this season for the Chicago Bears.
As fate would have it, Brian Griese, the Bears quarterback went down with an injured shoulder in the first half was unable to return to the game.
Grossman, who helped the Bears make it to Super Bowl last season, was sent in to the game and hooked up with Bernard Berrian for a 59-yard touchdown pass with 3:11 remaining in the game and the Bears defeated the Oakland Raiders 17-6 at McAfee Coliseum.
The Bears trailed the Raiders 6-3 after Sebastian Janikowski kicked a 42-yard field goal, but Grossman hooked up with Berrian, who got behind Chris Carr and was able to haul in the Grossman pass for the eventual game-winning touchdown pass.
After the touchdown, the Raiders punted the ball back to the Bears, but were unable to close out the game on offense and were forced to punt the ball back to the Raiders.
Adewale Ogunleye then forced Josh McCown to fumble, and it was recovered by Israel Idonije at the Raiders’ three-yard line.
On the first play from scrimmage after the turnover, Cedric Benson sealed the game, when took a handoff from Grossman and scampered into the end zone for the final points of the Raiders seventh loss in nine games this season.
This was also the fifth straight loss for the Raiders, who have not won since defeating the Miami Dolphins at Dolphins Stadium on September 30.
Justin Fargas carried the ball 23 times for 81 yards, as he started for the second game in a row.
As an entire team, the Raiders finished with a season-low 193 yards of total offense.
Josh McCown behind the center as the game began, despite the boos by the Raider Nation, who want to see JaMarcus Russell on the field and not holding a clipboard.
