While the 49ers are on their bye week, here’s some other tidbits to keep you updated.
Alex Smith is going to spend his Sunday practicing throwing. The offense may need to pick up protection for him.
Gary Plummer had a lot of positives to mention for the 49ers on 49ers.com such as the defense, Isaac Sopoaga, Marques Douglas, Michael Lewis, and Nate Clements.
The defense feels like it can still improve, and one major area is in turnovers.
Manny Lawson’s surgery went well and he is now working on rehabilitation.
The most recent news concerning a new stadium for the 49ers came Wednesday as Cedar Fair, which operates Great America, officially opposed the stadium project as given. However Cedar Fair may also be willing to sell the park which would most likely change things.
Also recently, former 49ers President Carmen Policy, was called in to head the efforts to keep the 49ers in SF. He said that the toxic waste around Hunters Point could be cleaned up in 6 months and that Hunters Point was a viable place for the new stadium. 49ers VP of Communications Lisa Lang said that between Santa Clara and Hunters Point, what Santa Clara had going for it, was infrastructure in place, as stated on a video on supportourniners.com.
It was also stated on SFgate.com that the Hunters Point site could be viewed as a backup in case Santa Clara plans fall through.
Stay tuned for next week’s 49ers preview next Saturday.
