More than several common threads weave these two teams together…This is another matchup of teams with identical records but also the top of the NFC West as they battle it out on Sunday.
Both teams also share a split in the all-time series at 8 wins apiece. Another commonality is that the NFC’s past two top rushers are their running backs. Also former players for each team will make an appearance: Julian Peterson of the 49ers now with the Seahawks and Darrell Jackson of Seattle now with SF.
The Seahawk’s Shaun Alexander is struggling with a broken wrist
49er tight end Vernon Davis’s injury to his right knee in last Sunday’s game turned out to be a sprained ligament and he is expected to miss 2 games.
SF is last in the NFC in both yards per game at 223 yards and passing yards per game at 132.3. Their defense however is 7th in the NFL based on interceptions.
Seattle is a 2nd-half defense who has given up only 17 points total this season.
The Seahawks have lost their last 4 games against division rivals.
The 49ers have the advantage over the Seahawks in recent games, but before that Seattle won 6 straight over SF.
More common ground: Members of the Seattle coaching staff, Special Projects/Defense coach Ray Rhodes, Defensive Coordinator John Marshall, and head coach Mike Holmgren used to work with SF.
Predictions: The Seahawks are favored to win by 4 out of 5 Yahoo! Sports experts and 59% of Pro Football Pick’em users. The 49ers are favored to win by Sporting News fan blogs with a TD separation score of 25-19.
