Bonds closes in on Aaron, now 25 shy of record

With 24 games left in the regular schedule, the San Francisco Giants continued their quest to catch the first place Los Angeles Dodgers, today with a 5-4 victory over the Cincinnati Reds, on Monday afternoon in 10 innings of play.
The Giants are in third place in the National League West Division, and are behind the
first place Dodgers by 4.5 games, while the San Diego Padres are 2 games behind the
Dodgers in second place in the Western Division
The Giants are now 2.5 behind for first place in the Wild Card race, trying to catch the San Diego Padres. San Francisco is now in fourth place in the Wild Card race, with
Florida and Philadelphia in second and third place respectively.
The Giants had offensive help from outfielder Moises Alou who doubled for an RBI and hit his 16th homer of the season. Barry Bonds hit his 22nd homer and is now 25 shy of the all time record held by Hank Aaron.
Shea Hillenbrand hit a homer to deep left center in the top of the 10th for his eighth blast of the year which proved to be the gamer for San Francisco.
The Giants Kevin Correia picked up his first win of the season (W, 1-0 ERA 3.45) in relief going 1.1 innings and one strike out.
The Reds David Weathers went two plus innings, one hit, one run, one walk, two strike outs, one homer.
Tuesday's match up at Great American Ball Park: Matt Morris starts for San Francisco (10-11 ERA 4.57) Morris won his last two starts.
For Cincinnati Bronson Arroyo (11-9 ERA 3.48) will start for Cincinnati, Bronson won his last game against the Padres 6-2 on Friday September 1st.
First pitch at the Ball Park is at 4:10PM PDT.
