This game was closer and the Oakland Athletics got the edge in a 3-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins, to kick off a 10-game road trip.
Oakland’s Mark Ellis homered in the game’s first at-bat to make it 1-0.
Teammate Kurt Suzuki made it 2-0 in the top of the fourth with a 2-run single to make it 3-0.
Minnesota fell short one run when they got 2 in the eighth due to a triple and a throwing error.
The A’s Brad Ziegler got the first 2 outs, then walked Mike Lamb, before striking out Brendan Harris for his third save.
Oakland starter Justin Duchscherer only pitched 2.2 innings before he had to leave the game because of a right hip strain.
A’s Kirk Saarloos, who was just called up today, stepped in and pitched 3.2 innings for the win.
Game notes: The Twins’ Adam Everett also left the game with an injury, a bruised right hand in the top of the seventh. Minnesota is one game behind the Chicago White Sox. Game 2 of 3 is Tuesday at 5:10pm.
