Despite leading by as many as seven runs against the Florida Marlins on Wednesday afternoon, the Giants had a meltdown of sorts in the late innings, which was capped when closer Brian Wilson blew a two-run lead in the ninth.
However, they got themselves together in the 10th inning, as Andres Torres cracked the game-winning hit to the left-field wall with the bases loaded and one out to down the Marlins, 10-9, at AT&T Park.
The Giants exploded for four runs in the first against Florida starter Alex Sanabia and then ripped him for three more in the third before he was taken out without his ever recording an out in that inning.
That lead wouldn't last long, though. The Marlins rallied to put a five-spot on the Giants in the seventh, an inning that was sparked by a three-run homer by former A's prospect Donnie Murphy and then a two-run shot by Dan Uggla.
The Giants wouldn't hear the last of Uggla. With his team nursing a two-run lead in the ninth, closer Brian Wilson again ran into some trouble, and after giving up a single and a double, Gaby Sanchez's groundout brought in a run.
With two outs, Wilson left a fastball in the middle of the strike zone, and Uggla raked it past the entire outfield and scored Emilio Bonifacio to tie the game before Wilson struck out Wes Helms to end the inning.
However, after Pablo Sandoval grounded out to start the 10th, the Giants came back with three straight singles before Torres blasted a first-pitch fastball to win the game.
