SAN FRANCISCO-Juan Uribe came through for the San Francisco Giants at the most opportune time, as they battle for a playoff spot.

Albeit, the playoffs do not start for another two months, this is a huge homestand for the Wild Card leading Giants.

Uribe hit a solo home run off of Brian Sanches in the bottom of the eighth inning, as the Giants hung on to defeat the Florida Marlins 6-4 before 38,904 at AT&T Park.

It was the 14th home run of the season for Uribe, and the eighth that have tied up or gave the Giants the lead (6 go-ahead and 2 game-tying).

Edgar Renteria hit a towering two-run home run off of Sanches that scored Aaron Rowand, who singled after Travis Ishikawa grounded out for the first out of the inning.

Rowand went two-for-four at the plate, as the Giants continue their hot play since the All-Star break, as they are now 10-3 since the July 13 midsummer classic at Anaheim Stadium.

Dan Uggla hit the first of his two home runs, a solo blast off of Matt Cain in the top of the seventh inning that tied up the ballgame at three.

Uggla added a solo home run off of Giants closer Brian Wilson in the top of the ninth inning, but the All-Star was able to strike out Wes Helms to end the game for his 30th save of the season, the most saves in the majors.

Just two innings before, Cody Ross hit a two-run home run off of Cain that tied up at two, after the Giants got to Josh Johnson for two runs in the bottom of the third inning.

Aubrey Huff doubled in Andres Torres for the Giants first run of the evening, and then Buster Posey extended his hitting streak to 20 games, as he singled in Huff; however Posey was thrown out at second base trying to stretch his single into a double.

The Giants retook the lead from Johnson, who is one of the hottest pitchers in the majors, as Freddy Sanchez singled in Torres, who doubled to leadoff the inning.

It was a big night for Torres, who went three-for-three, including two doubles that put Torres into a tie for the most doubles in the National League with 32, tying him with Jason Werth of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Cain went seven strong innings, allowing three runs on just four hits, walking three and striking out six; however he did not fare in the decision.

Johnson also went seven innings, also allowing three runs on eight hits ,walking three and struck out five and was unable to notch his 11th win of the season.

It was an off night for Johnson, who trying to become the first pitcher since Greg Maddux in 1995 to go 13 consecutive starts without allowing two runs or more.

Mike Scott went 14 consecutive starts allowing two runs or less for the Houston Astros during the 1986 season, when the Astros would go to the National League Championship Series, but fell to the New York Mets in six games.

Logan Morrison, who was called up earlier in the day from the New Orleans Zephyrs, the Marlins Triple-A team picked up his first major league hit off of Cain in the top of the fourth inning and finished the night 1-for-4.

NOTES: Jonathan Sanchez will head to the mound in a special 4:05 start at the corner of Third and King, while the Marlins will counter with Alex Sanabia, who will be making his first ever start against the Giants.

The Giants improve to 47-8 on the season, when scoring four or more runs in a game and improve to 40-11 when scoring first.

In their last 22 games, the Giants are 17-5 and in their last 20 games, they are 16-4, with their losses coming at the hands of the Washington Nationals, New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers and the Marlins.
