Texas Rangers’ Michael Young lifted the American League to a victory over the National League, 4-3, with the third sacrifice fly of the game, in 15 innings. The AL has now won the game 12 straight years.
Stellar pitching led to seven innings of tied baseball. The National team had 4 errors and the hits were about even.
The scoring didn’t start until the top of the fifth when NL Matt Holliday made it 1-0 with a solo home run after AL Ervin Santana relieved Toronto Blue Jays Roy Halladay. Santana also had two strikeouts.
NL Lance Berkman made it 2-0 the next inning with a sacrifice fly.
AL J.D. Drew tied the game the next inning however, with the swing of a bat, bringing home teammate Justin Morneau with him.
Each team exchanged blows the next inning when the San Diego Padres Adrian Gonzalez brought in Houston Astros teammate Miguel Tejada for the National team and Cleveland Indian Grady Sizemore scored due to a ground rule double for the American team to make it 3-3.
Game notes: Six American players stole a base. The A’s Justin Duchscherer did get to pitch one inning, giving up three hits, one run, and striking out one.
