It's time for the Giants to make their big push.

In a division that has proven to be the most closely-contested in baseball, they finished the first half in third place but only four games behind the National League West-leading San Diego Padres, even though they have won only nine of the 29 games they've played against division opponents.

The Giants start the second half of the season on Thursday night, when the New York Mets roll into AT&T Park for a four-game series. They will have their ace, Tim Lincecum, on the mound for the opener, but it will not be easy.

Although he has lost his last two decisions, the Mets' starter for that day, R.A. Dickey, has a 6-2 record going into the second half along with a 2.77 earned-run average.

Lincecum us getting the start Thursday because of the fact that he did not pitch in Tuesday's All-Star Game in Anaheim. Had he taken part in the game, he would have traded spots with Matt Cain and taken the hill on Saturday while Cain would have started the opener.
