Madison Bumgarner may have submerged into that fifth starter’s role, and what he did against the Milwaukee Brewers solidified everything.
Bumgarner pitched a complete game, got a base hit, drove in a run and the San Francisco Giants made it two in a row with 6-1 victory over the Brewers at Miller Park.
The Giants got a majority of their runs in the top of the sixth inning off of Brewers starter Randy Wolf, who gave up just one earned run in the tough loss.
Pablo Sandoval got the ball rolling for the Giants, as he hit a screamer that Craig Counsell threw wildly and on the play, Andres Torres and Freddy Sanchez scored.
Travis Ishikawa then hit a two-run single that scored Pat Burrell and Sandoval to give the Giants a 4-0 lead with two outs in the sixth inning.
Bumgarner then helped out his own cause, as he singled in Aaron Rowand, as the Giants took a commanding 5-0 lead on the home team.
Buster Posey drove in the final Giants run of the game with a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning
Joe Inglett broke up the shutout in the bottom of the ninth inning that scored Casey McGehee with the only Brewers run of the evening.
Bumgarner went eight innings, allowing just three hits, walking three and striking out five on his way to his first major league victory.
