SAN FRANCISCO-Maybe Pablo Sandoval did not get the memo that you should not round second base too far against Andre Ethier.
For the second time in as many nights, Sandoval was thrown out on a botched play, helping the Los Angeles Dodgers to pickup their second consecutive victory with a 4-2 over the San Francisco Giants before 35,289 at AT&T Park.
Sandoval tried to go to third base on a single by Pat Burrell, and was thrown out by Ethier, as he tried to get back to second base and was tagged out by Blake DeWitt.
Matt Cain lasted five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, walking three and striking out six, as he fell to 0-8 in his career.
John Ely pitched a great game, as he went seven innings, allowing one run on five hits, walking three an striking out five on his way to his fourth win of the season.
Casey Blake got the Dodgers on the board in the first inning, as he singled in Ethier, who singled with two outs, which brought Manny Ramirez to the plate.
Ramirez hit a single, advanced to second and got back to second base; however he injured his right hamstring on the play and was forced to leave the game.
Andres Torres then led off the Giants half of the first inning with a double, and then scored the Giants only run of the inning, when Aubrey Huff hit a sacrifice fly to left field.
The Dodgers broke it open in the fifth inning, as they scored three runs off of Cain, as James Loney drove in Rafael Furcal and Russell Martin, with what proved to be the winning runs.
Furcal went 3-for-5 on the evening, and is hitting .414 (12-for-29) with eight runs scored in the seven games since being activated from the bereavement list.
Blake drove in Loney, which proved to be the final run of the game for the Dodgers, who raise their 2010 record versus their archrivals to 4-1.
Pat Burrell tried to make it interesting in the bottom of the ninth inning, as he took a Justin Miller offering over the left field wall for his fifth home run with the Giants and sixth overall this season.
NOTES: Jonathan Sanchez looks stop the bleeding, as he takes to the AT&T Park mound, while the Dodgers send Vicente Padilla to the hill.
In his career versus the Dodgers, Sanchez is 0-4 with a 5.95 earned run average in eight career starts versus the Dodgers.
