Kosuke Fukudome’s RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Chicago Cubs a 3-2 interleague win over the Oakland A’s Thursday afternoon at Wrigley Field.

For the Cubs, it was their first series win since late May. The Athletics have lost five of their last six games, putting them two games under .500.

Losing pitcher Jerry Blevins (2-1) opened the ninth by walking Geovany Soto, who was sacrificed to second. After pinch-hitter Koyie Hill was intentionally walked, Ryan Theriot received a free pass to load the bases.

With the infield drawn in, Fukudome singled in Soto for the game-winner.

In the eighth inning, Fukudome singled to start a Cubs rally against A’s closer Andrew Bailey that resulted in tying the game at 2-2.

This was Oakland’s first loss in 29 games in which the A’s led after seven innings. A’s starter Dallas Braden allowed one run in six innings, but hasn’t won a game since his perfect game on May 9.

Jeff Baker hit a solo home run in the first inning for Chicago, and the A’s tied the game on an RBI single by Rajai Davis. Mark Ellis put the Athletics ahead 2-1 with a home run in the seventh.

Carlos Marmol (2-1) got the win in relief for the Cubs.
