Oakland took advantage of four Chicago Cubs errors Tuesday, while Rajai Davis and Kevin Kouzmanoff sparked the Athletics offense in a 9-5 interleague victory over the Cubs at rainy Wrigley Field.
While Davis drove in a pair of runs, Kouzmanoff extended his hitting streak to 15 games as the A’s bounced back from being swept over the last weekend at San Francisco.
The start of the game was delayed 1 hour and 41 minutes.
Chicago first baseman Derrek Lee, a three-time Gold Glove winner, committed back-to-back errors in a four-run Oakland fourth inning, and Cubs right fielder Tyler Colvin committed two more miscues in the A’s three-run seventh.
Trevor Cahill (6-2) picked up the win for Oakland despite allowing four runs on six hits over 5 2/3 innings. Cubs starter Carlos Zambrano (2-5) surrendered five runs, only two of them earned, in his six innings of work.
Oakland made a couple of moves away from the field, picking up outfielder Conor Jackson from Arizona in exchange for minor league closer Sam Demel. The A’s also reinstated catcher Kurt Suzuki from the bereavement list and optioned outfielder Matt Carson to Triple-A Sacramento.
