SAN FRANCISCO-It was a nail biter all the way to the end of the game, but Barry Zito is finally in the win column against his former team.

Entering the game, Zito was 0-4 versus the Oakland A’s, a team he pitched for from 2000-2006, but he is now in the win column.

Zito went seven innings, giving up just two runs on six hits, as the San Francisco Giants hung on to defeat the A’s 5-4 before 36,861 at AT&T Park.

Juan Uribe got the Giants on the board in the first inning, as he drove in Andres Torres with a single back to the pitchers’ mound.

Torres led off the bottom of the first inning with a double down the left field line, and then with two outs in the inning, Uribe hit a ball back to the mound that scored Torres.

Matt Carson hit his first home run of the season, a solo shot off of Zito in the top of the second inning to tie up the game for the visitors from the East Bay.

Torres then gave the lead back to the Giants in the bottom of the second inning ,as he singled in Pablo Sandoval, who walked to lead off the inning.

The Giants would then extend their lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the third inning, as Aubrey Huff tripled to right-center field and then Uribe picked up his second RBI of the game, as he singled in Huff.

Sandoval then gave the Giants what looked like a comfortable 5-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, as he hit his fifth home run of the season over the left-center field wall.

Adam Rosales then got the A’s within three runs, as he hit a pinch-hit solo home run in the top of the seventh inning.

Things began to get interesting in the top of the eighth inning, as the A’s scored two runs after Kevin Kouzmanoff doubled in Mark Ellis and then Gabe Gross walked with the bases loaded to score Kouzmanoff from third base.

That would be all for Jeremy Affeldt, who came on to replace Santiago Casilla, who did not retire a batter before being replaced by Affeldt.

After Affeldt, Bruce Bochy went to Brian Wilson with one out in the eighth inning and promptly struck out Rosales and then got Rajai Davis to ground out to Uribe for the final out of the inning.

In the ninth, Wilson got into jam, as he gave up singles to Ellis and Jack Cust, the latter with two outs; however he was then able to get Landon Powell to ground into a force play for the final out, giving the game and the series to the Giants.

It was the 17th save of the season for Wilson in 19 opportunities, and his second five out this season (May 9, 2010 against the New York Mets) and the 20th time converting a save with four outs or more.

NOTES: Matt Cain will go for his sixth win on the Sunday afternoon for the Giants, while the A’s will counter with Vin Mazzaro.

Before the game, the Giants opened up AT&T Park for fans to World Cup match between the United States and England. Over 20,000 people entered the park to watch the 1-1 tie in the first round of the 2010 World Cup from Rustenberg, South Africa, as Clint Dempsey scored in the 39th minute, giving the United States a tie.
