In a game that was very pivotal, their star came up huge at the most opportune time in game three of the NBA Finals.
Kobe Bryant scored 36 points, as the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Boston Celtics, 87-81 before a sellout crowd of 18,997 at Staples Center.
Sasha Vujacic scored 20 points, including going 3-for-5 from beyond the three-point arc, as the Lakers raised their record to a perfect 9-0 at Staples Center in the playoffs.
Not only have the Lakers won nine consecutive games in the playoffs, but if you go back to the regular season, the Lakers have won 15 consecutive games since March 28.
Bryant went 12-for-20 from the floor, and despite going to the free throw line 18 times, the NBA MVP made only 11 free throws.
Besides Bryant and Vujacic, Derek Fisher, who returned to the Lakers this season after a three-year absence, where he played for the Golden State Warriors and the Utah Jazz, scored just six points; however, his two free throws with 1:33 in the fourth quarter eventually put the game away.
Ray Allen, who is his playing in his first NBA Finals, led the Celtics with 25 points, while the other two members of the “Big Three” did not fare as well.
Kevin Garnett scored 13 points, while going 6-for-21 from the field.
Paul Pierce, who grew up in the shadows of the Lakers’ former home, the Forum in Inglewood, struggled as he scored just six points.
