On what has been a very nice road trip, the Giants ran into a little speed bump on Wednesday.
After taking the first two of a four-game series from the Cincinnati Reds, they ran into a buzz-saw in former A's right-hander Aaron Harang, who gave up only two runs on five hits over seven innings as Giants fell, 6-3, at Cincinnati's Great American Ball Park.
The Giants took a 2-1 lead in the second inning on Buster Posey's two-run homer off Harang, but that would be the last runs he surrendered. In the meantime, the Reds got just enough off lefty Jonathan Sanchez to make Harang a winner for the fifth time this season.
To help him out, Scott Rolen banged out three hits, including a pair of RBI doubles, while Bay Area native Jonny Gomes got a key two-run double in the seventh inning to push Cincinnati's lead to 6-2.
The Giants, however, put together a mini-rally in the ninth. With two outs, Nate Schierholtz legged out an infield single, and after advancing to second, scored on Andres Torres' double. However, the rally – and the game – was ended when Freddy Sanchez, who went 0-for-5 on Wednesday, struck out.
