Andrew McCutchen may have had the night of his major league career, but it was a diving catch by Lastings Milledge that saved the game.

Milledge made it a diving catch on the warning with the bases loaded, as the Pittsburgh Pirates held on to defeat the San Francisco Giants 6-3 before a sellout crowd at PNC Park.

McCutchen picked up four hits, including a home run, two doubles and scored two runs in just the `62nd game of McCutchen’s young career.

The Pirates took a 6-0 lead against the Giants, but that all almost came to a crashing halt, as former Pirates second baseman hit a deep flyball to left field.

Milledge retreated, and at the last moment, was forced to dive to make what was a great catch to end the game and give the game to the Pirates.

Ryan Doumit hit a home run and drive in four runs for the Pirates, as Paul Maholm won his fourth game of the season and became the first Pirates starter to win a game in nearly three weeks.

Maholm went 6.1 innings, giving just two runs on six hits, before giving way to the Pirates bullpen.

Todd Wellemeyer went three innings, allowing six runs on nine hits, it was the shortest outing of the season for Wellemeyer, who lost for the fifth time this season.

Andres Torres picked up three hits for the Giants, who lost for just the second time in their last eight games.

Former Bellarmine High School star Pat Burrell made his Giants debut, playing in left field and went 1-for-4 at the plate.
