Kurt Suzuki hit two of Oakland’s four home runs Thursday, and the Athletics won a 9-8 slugfest over Boston at Fenway Park. The game featured a combined 32 hits, two Red Sox runners thrown out at the plate and two injured A’s.

Suzuki homered in his first two at-bats against Red Sox knuckleballer Tim Wakefield (1-4) – a solo job in the second inning and a two-run homer in the A’s four-run fourth.

Oakland was leading 7-5 in the eighth when Jack Cust and Kevin Kouzmanoff hit home runs on consecutive pitches by Boston setup reliever Manny Delcarmen.

Boston lost the game despite collecting 18 hits – 10 for extra bases – and three home runs. In the Red Sox eighth, ex-Athletic Marco Scutaro hit his third homer of the year. Two hitters later, Andrew Bailey came in and retired the next three Boston hitters.

Bailey gave up a solo homer to Bill Hall in the ninth, but still managed to nail down his 12th save. Vin Mazzaro (1-0) picked up the win in relief.

Jeremy Hermida hit the other Boston home run in the sixth inning.

Off the field, the Athletics claimed third baseman Adam Heether off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers and assigned him to Triple-A Sacramento. To make room on the roster for Heether, Oakland transferred righthander Justin Duchscherer to the 60-day disabled list.

The Athletics also announced they would pick up the lease option to play the 2011 season at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. The A’s also have options to play at the 45-year-old ballpark in 2012 and 2013.
