Four walks, two wild pitches, and three relievers in four consecutive innings took out whatever chance Oakland had of staying in the game, in a Boston Red Sox 9-4 win.

The A's reliniquished their lead in the bottom of the sixth, when Tyson Ross and Craig Breslow, both fresh relievers, combined to load the bases with three walks and no outs. Breslow was able to induce a double play to only score one run. However, Martinez then hit a ground rule double to score the go-ahead run, 5-4.

This gave John Lackey his second straight win, even though he gave up a season-high twelve hits. The Red Sox won their third straight game, while Ross loss for the fourth time in his last five appearances.

Oakland scored two runs first again when Daric Barton brought himself and Rajai Davis in with a home run during the top of the third. Davis had singled and moved over to third on an errant throw from catcher Victor Martinez.

Things looked even better when the A's scored two more on a Jack Cust single and Mark Ellis double. A wild pitch was involved in the inning, but it didn't matter for Oakland since Cust, who moved from second to third on the pitch, would have scored anyway on Ellis's double.

However, Boston's Adrian Beltre almost tied the game up with a single swing of the bat, as he hit a three-run home run, similar to how Oakland started out.

Walks continued to haunt in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs, Breslow walked J.D. Drew and Bill Hall proceeded to triple him in to make it 6-4. That took out Breslow in favor of Michael Wuertz.

Automatic doubles and more mistakes dominated the bottom of the eighth. With one out, Dustin Pedroia hit a ground rule double and moved over on a wild pitch by Wuertz. The same exact thing then occurred with Martinez to score Pedroia. Kevin Youkilis then brought in Martinez with a single and took out Wuertz in favor of Jerry Blevins. Blevins got one more out, but then gave up consecutive singles to score Youkilis. Hall then walked, but luckily Blevins was able to get the final out of the three-run inning.

Game notes: Martinez was a perfect 5-for-5. The teams play at 4:10pm again on Wednesday.
