Davis scored half of Oakland's runs and Cahill won his third straight start as the A's resumed their winning ways against the Detroit Tigers, to close out the four-game series with a 4-1 win.
It was Trevor Cahill's third straight start going at least six innings and giving up just one earned run as well. However, he gave up a season-high four walks, one more than in his last start.
The Tigers crushed Oakland in a 10-2 victory the previous day.
The A's got a head start with a lead they never relinquished in the top of the first inning. Rajai Davis led off with a single and reached home plate on a double by Daric Barton. Ryan Sweeney then singled and Kurt Suzuki hit into a double play to score Barton and make it 2-0.
In the bottom of the inning, the Tigers' Don Kelly led off with a walk and moved over on a throwing error, but Cahill then got a 1-2-3 inning on three different types of outs.
After a walk in the bottom of the second, Detroit's Justin Verlander got out fourteen consecutive batters.
Neither team scored until the top of the seventh when Oakland's Kevin Kouzmanoff singled in Suzuki who led off with a double, giving the A's a 3-0 lead.
The Tigers scored their first run in the bottom of the inning, when Austin Jackson, their second pinch hitter of the inning hit gold with a single that scored Brandon Inge.
Oakland kind of made that run null the following inning. After a groundout, Davis made it around the horn all by himself with a single and double stolen bases. Barton then walked and Sweeney ground out to bring in Davis, with the fielder chosing to throw out Barton.
Verlander got the loss and Andrew Bailey the save. It was Verlander's second loss in a row as he struck out eight in that same stretch.
Game notes: The A's next take on the Boston Red Sox, starting Tuesday at 4:10pm.
