SACRAMENTO--The Sacramento Kings lost to the San Antonio Spurs in Game 6 off the first round of the NBA Playoffs 105-83, and with the loss, the Spurs took the series winning four of the six games, and San Antonio will now face the Dallas Mavericks in the second round.
The Kings couldn't stop Tony Parker who had 14 points in the third quarter alone for San Antonio.
The Kings were holding the Spurs to a stand still until late in the second quarter when they were tied 38-38.
The Spurs scored a quick 45-38 to go up on the Kings at the half. By the midway of the third quarter, San Antonio had a commanding lead of 59-40.
The Kings were able to get with in 14 points midway in the fourth quarter, but lost the game by 22 points. The some of the great Sacramento play in Games 3 and 4 turned into some unsightly play with the Kings turning the ball over 12 times.
Parker had 31 points for the Spurs with Tim Duncan chipping 15. The Kings high point man was Mike Bibby with 19. Bonzi Wells had 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Going into the playoffs as the number eight seed was a bit misleading because they were playing much better than that. Kings fans are proud of the team for winning two of the four games against the Spurs and almost winning a third one in Game 2.
And the coup de grace was the romp over the Spurs in Game 4.
Sacramento Head Coach Rick Adelman is a realist and was happy this Kings team scared the hell out of the defending NBA Champs. It was a great entertaining series. Adelman was not depressed and not disappointed and he wished it could have continued but Adelman understood how it was to go up against the defending NBA Champs.
In the Spurs dressing room they looked at this game as taking care of business and were satisfied to move onto the next level of the playoffs where they face Dallas.
JC and Kenny G's NBA notes: Tim Duncan does not appear fully healthy. Manu Ginobili did not have a great series. Duncan has a sore foot among other things. Duncan did not appear strong as he did normally.
Are the Spurs going to have trouble with Dallas? Probably. Are they going to beat Dallas? Dallas is a pretty strong team. The Mavericks have a solid team with Dirk Nowitzki who is the heart of the Mavericks team.
In the past few years Dallas has been a great offensive machine. This year they're a much better defensive team then they ever been. The change comes basically with the Mavericks Head Coach Avery Johnson.
