The Detroit Red Wings slowed down "Little Joe", but it was still another identical score and another Sharks win, as San Jose defeated the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 for the third straight game in the Western Conference semifinals, Tuesday at Joe Louis Arena.

Off a fresh line change amidst coincidental timing, Patrick Marleau scored at 7:07 of the series' first overtime, capping a three-goal comeback to lift the Sharks to victory. Marleau, who was assisted by "Big Joe" Thornton, scored his second goal of the playoffs, his first coming against the Colorado Avalanche April 22.

It was Joe Pavelski's first game without a goal after scoring in five straight games, but he kept up his six-game points streak with an assist during San Jose's first goal. Pavelski has thirteen points in his last six games.

The Sharks also overcame Joe Louis as it was San Jose's first playoff win there since Game 1 of the 2007 Western Conference semifinals, April 26th.

Detroit had to like their chances, coming back to their home crowd while building a 2-0 lead in the first period. Tomas Holmstrom scored first, aided by Johan Franzen and Nicklas Lidstrom, followed by Dan Cleary, helped by Drew Miller and Henrik Zetterberg. It was Holmstrom's second goal in two games. Even though the Sharks' Devin Setoguchi made it 2-1 at 19:56, assisted by Pavelski and Ryane Clowe, the Red Wings recovered their two goal lead at just 1:42 of the second period. Zetterberg was aided by Valtteri Filppula and Brian Rafalski.

Not to be counted out though, especially in playoff hockey, San Jose made their way back in the third period, with the help of now "Big Joe," who nabbed his second goal in two games. Thornton provided the game winner in Game 2 and started the Sharks' comeback at Joe Louis arena. Pairing experience with not-so-much, San Jose also got a goal from rookie Logan Couture, who earned his third goal of the playoffs and first of the series since scoring two goals against Colorado as well. Couture was helped by Torrey Mitchell and Marc-Edouard Vlasic.

Neither team scored on the power play, combining to go 0-for-9, San Jose 0-for-6 and the Red Wings 0-for-3.

Game notes: Marleau has scored at least one point in three of his last four games. The Sharks' Rob Blake and Vlasic were both +3 for the game. Detroit and San Jose were dead even on faceoffs and the Red Wings had a two shot on goal edge, 35-33. The Sharks will go for a two-peat win at Detroit during Game 4, set to begin Thursday at 4:30pm.
