(San Jose, CA) -- The San Jose Sharks rallied for two goals in the third period to come from behind and beat the Montreal Canadiens 3-2. Patrick Marlau, Dany Heatley and Manny Malhotra each scored goals for the Sharks. Evgeni Nabokov rallied from a recent rough stretch to make 28 saves.

“If it wasn’t for Nabby early on we would have seen a much bigger hole than we did,” Malhotra said.

Carey Price was a tough nut to crack for the Sharks stopping 37 shots on goal.

Brian Gionta and Scott Gomez each scored for Montreal.

The Canadiens led the game 1-0 and 2-1 but the Sharks were able to battle back with a pair of goals in the third to give them the win.

Brian Gointa started the scoring with a shot through traffic from straight ahead just inside the blue line.

The Sharks tied it short handed. Marleau got a shot from the blue line that found its way past Price.

The tie was short lived as the Canadiens scored on the same power play. Gomez connected for the 2-1 lead.

Dan Boyle got a penalty shot and hit the crossbar. The penalty shot was called when the Sharks were on a 4-3 power play. Price was called for throwing his stick at the puck. In that situation, a player that was on the ice has to take the penalty shot, and that is why Boyle ended up with the shot.

The first shot after the penalty shot, Dany Heatley hit the post. In the end the game remained 2-1.

In the third period the Sharks hit the post again. Torey Mitchell made a great pass to the blue line that found Scott Nichol wide open behind the defense. Nichol fired the shot that hit the post. Afterwards he got cross checked from behind and he fell into the wall hurting his shoulder. No call was made by the referees who missed the call.

Dany Heatley tied it on the power play. Heatley was parked in front of the net. Boyle fired the puck at net and the puck went off of Heatley and passed Price.

Manny Malhotra got the Sharks in the lead on a one timer from center ice off a great pass from the side by Mitchell.

“He made a great pass,” Malhotra said of Mitchell’s assist.

The Canadiens had a few great opportunities in the closing seconds with the goalie pulled, but Nabokov made a couple of nice plays and the defense held on for the win.

The Sharks five game homestand continues on Saturday night when they welcome the Columbus Blue Jackets to San Jose.

Note: Patrick Marleau’s goal was this 39th of the season which is a career high.
