In what will be probably one of their biggest regular season games in a long time, the Denver Nuggets got ready for the defending World Champion Los Angeles Lakers by taking on the Golden State Warriors.

Chauncey Billups scored 37 points and Carmelo Anthony added 27, as the Nuggets defeated the Warriors 127-112.

This was the first game that the Nuggets played without head coach George Karl since it was discovered that the former Warriors head coach revealed that he was suffering from throat cancer.

J.R. Smith chipped in with 25 points, including six three-pointers, as the Nuggets hit a season-high 16 three-pointers.

Billups also hit six three-pointers, as the Nuggets head back to Denver to face the Detroit Pistons on Friday night and then will head to Los Angeles to face the Lakers on Sunday afternoon in a rematch of last season’s Western Conference Finals.

Stephen Curry led the Warriors with 30 points, as they have now lost 13 out of their last 16 games and are now 16-41 on the season.

Monta Ellis scored 22 points, while Anthony Morrow added 20 for the Warriors, who return to the court on Saturday night when they will face the Pistons.
