The San Jose Sharks edged the Toronto Maple Leafs in a 3-2 victory Monday, to post their ninth win in 11 games and eighth consecutive road win, despite a close shot attempt by the Maple Leafs with just over 10 seconds to go in the game.

Thought it was the teams' first matchup since 2008, San Jose had met Toronto goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere before, but the result was the same. Giguere couldn't win his third straight game with his new team and is now 0-3 for the season versus San Jose. The Sharks now have a 6 point lead over the Chicago Blackhawks in the West.

The Maple Leafs' Tyler Bozak scored the only goal of the first period at 10:36, aided by Phil Kessel.

San Jose's Dan Boyle tied the game at 3:17 of the second period, helped by Dany Heatley and Joe Thornton. The goal came off a deflection after a Sharks' faceoff win. Teammate Joe Pavelski scored the go ahead goal at 5:41, assisted by Devin Setoguchi. This goal came off a turnover. Toronto's Phil Kessel re-tied the game at 19:09 on the power play, aided by Dion Phaneuf and Tomas Kaberle, off a Maple Leafs' faceoff win.

Finally, the Sharks' Ryane Clowe broke the tie for good at 13:21 of the third period. He was helped by Setoguchi and Rob Blake.

Game notes: San Jose has made several recent transactions of late, the most helpful one probaby being the acquisition of Carolina Hurricanes' defenseman Niclas Wallin, who has a Stanley Cup ring amidst a lot of playoff experience. The teams also exchanged picks for the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. The Sharks got a fifth round selection in exchange for a second round selection. In addition, forward Dwight Helminem was brought back up from Worcester and defensemen Jamie McGinn and Derek Joslin were sent back down. Kaberle's assist was the 400th of his career. San Jose continues their roadtrip against the Colomubs Blue Jackets Wednesday at 4pm.
