In a strange trend, the high-powered Sharks have been the ones who have
been out-shot lately, after having the opposite occur most of last year.
What’s more odd is the fact that they’re finding ways to win when that
happens.
Such happened Saturday night, as San Jose got past the playoff-contending
Nashville Predators, 4-3, at the Sommet Center, with Dany Heatkey scoring
twice, including the game-winning goal in the third period.
The two teams went back and forth for two periods, with Nashville drawing
first blood in the first period with the first of two goals by J.P. Dumont
with only 1:39 elapsed in the game. Thirty-three seconds later, Sharke
tough guy Brad Staubitz, obviously much more known for his fisticuffs than
his puck handling, beat Pekka Rinne to tie the game up.
Dumont scored again to give Nashville the lead before Heatley scored on a
power play to again tie the match, before San Jose’s Rob Blake and
Predators winger Joel Ward traded goals to enter the second intermission
all squared up.
Then, at the 11:57 mark, Heatley scored his 32nd goal of the game on the
power play to give the Sharks their only lead of the game, and it would
stand up.
