BERKELEY-Exactly one month ago to the day, the California Golden Bears were celebrating their first win at Maples Pavilion since Jason Kidd’s freshman season.

Fast forward one month, and it seem that the Golden Bears and the Stanford Cardinal are going in opposite directions in the race for seeding in the Pacific Life Pac-10 Tournament at Staples Center in Los Angeles next month.

Fred Washington scored a season-high 21 points and dished off six assists, as the Cardinal never relinquished the lead and defeated the Golden Bears 90-71 at Haas Pavilion.

"They're playing with a lot more chemistry," said Theo Robertson. "They're playing a lot more fluid. The first time around they were stagnant on offense. They had a lot more rhythm to their approach. Fred is their glue."

Brook Lopez, who scored a career-high 20 points in a 90-86 heartbreaking double overtime loss to the Gonzaga Bulldogs on Wednesday night scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Lawrence Hill led the Cardinal with 24 points, which included a stretch in which he scored seven straight points in a second half sequence.

Brook’s twin Robin blocked five shots.

We have some decent balance right now," said Trent Johnson. "This is a team and we're becoming more and more complete. We need all the parts working well together to be successful."

Ayinde Ubaka scored 17 points and dished off seven assists, despite shooting 5-for-13 from the floor.

Ubaka received a IV during the Bears’ last game versus the USC Trojans due to a stomach virus.

In the first meeting between the Bay Area rivals, Ubaka scored a season-high 26 points in helping the Golden Bears defeat the Cardinal 67-63 at Maples Pavilion.

Jerome Randle scored 19 points, and Robertson added 11 and grabbed five rebounds; however the Golden Bears lost for the four straight time all to teams ranked in the top 25.

The Golden Bears had a chance to sweep the Cardinal for the first time since that magical 1992-1993 season when the Golden Bears made it to the Sweet 16 after defeating the two-time defending National Champion Duke Blue Devils in the second round at the Rosemont Horizon just outside of Chicago.

The Lopez twins held Ryan Anderson in check, as the Golden Bears leading scorer was held to just 11 points, while shooting just 4-for-11 from the floor.

It was a great night for the Cardinal all around, especially from the free throw line, as they shot a remarkable 22-for-24 from the line, including 19-for-20 in the second half. "Don't tell anyone but that's exceptional for us," said Johnson. "This was probably our best win on the road." The only down point for the Cardinal was when Anthony Goods was hit with a technical foul behind him towards Cal’s Taylor Harrison. Ubaka hit the ensuing two free throws that narrowed the lead don to 59-49 lead, but Hill scored on the next play for the Cardinal to push the lead back up to 12.

Eric Vierneisel returned to the floor for the Golden Bears after missing both the UCLA and USC games with a sprained left ankle.
