The Seattle Seahawks long wait for advancing in the post-season has ended after twenty-one years since 1985, with Seattle being in the division championship game with their victory over the visiting Washington Redskins, 20-10 at Quest Field in Downtown Seattle.

Seattle’s Shaun Alexander was lost due to a concussion in the third quarter and left the game. Head Coach Mike Holmgren said at that point, the responsibility of the game rested on the shoulders of quarterback Hasselbeck, "I told Matt at halftime he had to shoulder the load. We always put a lot on his shoulders, but I told him that now he has to do a little bit more." said Holmgren.

Hasselbeck threw for a touchdown and carried for another to help Seattle stay ahead of Washington. In the first quarter neither team scored. In the second quarter, Washington opened up with a 26-yard field goal by John Hall at 5:03 to make it 3-0 Washington.

At 5:37 in the second quarter, the Seahawks scored the first touchdown of the day as Darrell Jackson caught a 29 yard pass from Hasselbeck to take a 7-3 lead.

Hasselbeck in the third quarter at 4:20 ran a keeper for six yards to further extend Seattle's lead to 14-3. In the fourth quarter the Seahawks Josh Brown hit a 33 yard field goal at 14:16 as the Seahawks were in front now 17-3.

Washington returned to the scoreboard as quarterback Mark Brunell threw a 20 yard pass to Santana Moss to cut Seattle's lead to 17-10 at 2:17.

With 2:54 left in the game the Seahawks Josh Brown sealed the deal with a 31 yard field goal as the Seahawks won it by ten points 20-10.

"I don't know if it was me. Those other guys stepped up it was really a team win today." said Hasselbeck.

Darrell Jackson contributed with a touchdown catch and Hasselbeck got high praise from his teammates going 215 yards throwing for 16 of 26. "I think he was awesome." said wide receiver Joe Jurevicius.

Washington Head Coach Joe Gibbs knew where the responsibility of the loss lay and he owned up to it, "That's my responsibility. Obviously we wanted to be much more productive than what we were in the playoffs, we have to look to see how we can do a better job offensively." said Gibbs.

JC and Kenny G's NFC Divisional Playoff notes: The Seahawks are in the NFC Championship and Hasselbeck and the Hawks are the NFC favorite for Super Bowl XL. The Seahawks have rolled all year long and at 14-3 they have the best record going into the NFC Playoffs.

The home field advantage is something the Seahawks can bolster as they are perfect at home so far at 8-0. Therefore, anyone facing Seattle now has a mountain to climb. Speaking of records Seattle and Washington played in Seattle's 28th consecutive day of rain.

If it's still raining by next Sunday for the NFC Championship that'll be just fine with the Seahawks as long as it provides them to the road to Super Bowl XL. If the Seahawks advance and the odds makers have them favored it will be their first Super Bowl ever since the franchise began in 1977.
