(San Jose, CA) -- The San Jose Sharks dropped a shootout loss to the Boston Bruins 2-1. The loss snaps the Sharks two game win streak although the one point allows the Sharks to once again tie the Chicago Blackhawks atop the Western Conference.

The Shootout went four rounds before Zdeno Chara scored the only goal for the win. Joe Pavelski, Ryan Clowe, Dany Heatley and Patrick Marleau were all stoned by Bruins goalie Tim Thomas.

Thomas was the story of the night making 41 saves while Danielle Paille scored the only Boston goal.

Evegeni Nabokov was also huge in net for the Sharks making 30 saves. Joe Thornton scored a power play goal for the lone Shark tally.

“We were getting pretty good looks but for some reason they were not going in,” Thornton said of the Sharks scoring chances. “We had some good chances but for we could not capitalize.”

Overall it was a well played, entertaining hockey game between two good teams. With the two teams totally 73 shots on net, it was clearly some great goaltending that kept the game as low scoring as it was.

“Both goaltenders played good and probably saved both teams at some point during the game,” Thornton said.

After a scoreless first period, the Bruins would score first. Danielle Paille would get credited for the goal in the beginning of the second period. Nabokov made the save on a shot from the outside but it looked like Boyle’s skate knocked the puck in under Nabokov.

The Sharks tied midway through the second period. Dan Boyle took the shot from the blue line. Thomas made the first save in traffic but the puck was got behind him and Thornton, standing at the side of the net, knocked it out of the air into the net.

After a wild third period and overtime that featured many scoring chances and great goaltending, the game would go to the shootout. The two teams combined for one goal on eight shots.

“We have four pretty darn good shooters we sent in there, you would expect to get at least one goal,” Coach Todd McLellan said.

The Sharks homestand continues on Saturday. In a rare afternoon game the HP Pavilion, the Edmonton Oilers will visit with a 1pm faceoff.

GAME NOTES:

**Willie O’Ree, the first NHL player of color dropped the puck before the game.

**Tonight was the second trip back to San Jose for Marco Sturm, one of three Sharks sent to Boston for Joe Thornton four years ago.
