Out of five games this season against the Los Angeles Kings, the San Jose Sharks won their first game in a 2-1 matchup Monday.
San Jose's Dan Boyle scored the only goal of the first period at 3:54, unassisted.
The Sharks capitalized with a power play at 4:40 of the second period. Dany Heatley scored, aided by Joe Thornton and Dan Boyle.
Los Angeles cut the lead with a goal by Randy Jones, who was helped by Alexander Frolov and Anze Kopitar.
The Kings were 0-5 on the power play, when San Jose was successful amidst a timeframe in which the Los Angeles penalty kill has been strong.
San Jose outshot the Kings 14-9 and 15-7 in the first and second periods respectively, with Los Angeles outshooting the Sharks 18-7.
Game notes: The Kings are now 0-3 during their current homestand. Both Heatley and Boyle had 7 shots on goal. San Jose leads the league with eight Olympic-bound players. The Sharks play the Phoenix Coyotes Tuesday at 6pm.
