INDIANAPOLIS--The hit on Carson Palmer, in Cincinnati last Sunday on the Bengal quarterback is still the talk around the water cooler this morning. The Bengals quarterback. says that he is not sure if he will recover from the first quarter hit he took in the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers last Sunday by July.
The Steelers advance to the Divisional Playoffs this Sunday in Indianapolis, with the victory over Cincinnati 31-17. The Steelers tackle Kimo Von Oelhoffen will be on the isolation camera shots during Sunday's game with highlights of the Palmer hit. Von Oelhoffen who hit Palmer in the legs after Palmer delivered his last pass of the season for a 66-yard completion.
The Bengals announcers were saying the hit was dirty and that Von Oelhoffen rolled on Palmer's legs after the hit. Palmer who will need reconstructive surgery on the knee saw the hit on film and that was enough as he could watch after the rewind, "I don't know Kimo personally from what I've heard he's a classy guy. Football is Football I don't think it was a malicious hit at all. He's a guy with a high motor that plays hard and was playing hard. It just happened. I don't think in anyway he was trying to do anything. Its just part of the game." said Palmer.
For the Bengals the loss was part of the game and it eliminated the Bengals from post season after an 11-5 season. Palmer is questionable as to whether he can return by July for the Bengals camp in time after deciding whether to have reconstructive surgery. Palmer has not decided if and when he'll have the surgery.
For the Steelers this week unless Von Oelhoffen can repeat his antics on Colts starting quarterback Payton Manning the Colts will be tough to stop after a 14-2 season and a 7-1 home record. Steelers coach Bill Cowher will have many plays to choose from the playbook on Sunday afternoon.
Manning is coming off rest from throwing with his right arm after resting for two weeks. He's looks great in practice and he's ready to get the Colts going in post season. "I’ve always taken every rep available and in the past. I've sacrificed my arm a little bit to do that. But you do it to rest your arm. The arm feels live now, which is great for this late in the season." said Manning.
Stefani's AFC Division Post season notes: The Colts have their playbook down. Peyton has rested for the last two weeks and his arm feels great. Although Indianapolis lost its final two of three Coach Dungy was just looking at who he had on the bench once the Colts clinched for post season.
The Steelers will have trouble trying to stop the Colts quick defense. The Colts can get past teams after the snap. Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will need extra blocking up front to get rid of the football. How tough does it get? The Colts will be at full strength they'll be pushing on both sides of the football unless the Steelers score two quick touchdowns and grab a field goal under the first 20 minutes of the opening salvo.
If the Steelers cant execute right away the only thing anyone will remember about Pittsburgh is for them showing up.
The Colts are at the RCA Dome they have a rested starting line up coming into the contest after not seeing action for at least two games and having a bye last weekend.
The Colts should be ready for this one and if Tony Dungy's practices are any indication of how the Colts should be ready then the players who rested the last two weeks should be ready instead of rusty.
I'll put 9 points on the Colts, they're the team to beat in post season.
The Steelers-Colts kickoff at 10:00AM Pacific.
