The shock of the expression, "on any given Sunday" applied in the case of Washington winning a tight ball game over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in this case last Saturday.
Washington came up aces with a 17-10 win.
What made the loss so bad for the Bucs is that they let down at home when they expected to take advantage of the home field opportunities. Tampa Bay’s quarterback Chris Simms went 25 for 38 passing attempts for a total of 198 yards, and no passing touchdowns.
For Washington, they dominated the first quarter as they took off with two touchdowns to get things rolling. Clinton Portis carried a six-yard touchdown into the end zone with 8:45 to go in the first quarter.
Washington in front 7-0 on a wild turnover play as the Bucs Carnell Williams, fumbled a one yard carry which was picked up by Washington linebacker Marcus Washington.
Washington then carried the ball for seven yards and fumbled and then Sean Taylor picked up that fumble for Washington and carried the ball all the way for a 51 yard return, which made the score 14-0.
The fumble set the tone in the first quarter that threw Tampa Bay off, as it was not only a fumble again and recovered twice by Washington but returned for a touchdown.
"Its unfortunate he was open and he had his hands on the ball and he was in the end zone.," said Bucs head coach Jon Gruden.
Washington now advances to the Divisional Playoffs on Saturday in Seattle. "Our defense was incredible you can’t say enough about them," said Washington quarterback Mark Brunell.
Taylor, the game hero lost his cool later in the game and spit in the face of the Bucs running back Michael Pittman. Taylor will be fined by the NFL office, and, will be suspended for one game. He will have to pay that suspension probably next season during the regular schedule. "He didn’t spit on him that what he told me, and I believe him. I love the kid. The kid has got great heart behind the scenes and he's a tremendous competitor. There's no other free safety in the NFL I would rather coach than him." said Washington Assistant Coach Greg Williams.
JC and Kenny G's footnotes: The Seahawks have all the benefits going into their direction for this one. Matt Hasselbeck can hit anyone on the field for a pass and his play action is the bomb.
The Seahawks fans at Qwest have been regarded as the twelfth man. The Bears who are also in the playoffs regard their fans as the twelfth man.
Josh Brown has come through on field goals and that puts Seattle in the driver’s seat in special team’s category.
The Seahawks are definitely ready for some football this coming Saturday and they should beat Washington by 81/2.
Kickoff is at 1:30PM PST.
Joe Cronin and Ken Gimblin are covering the NFC Playoffs and co-hosting Sportstalk on 1430 KVVN San Jose or 1110 KLIB Sacramento.
