Just seconds away from a rare road victory, the Golden State Warriors left the Pepsi Center with broken hearts.

J.R. Smith was fouled on a desperation 40-foot attempt with 0.4 seconds, and subsequently hit two free throws and the Denver Nuggets defeated the Golden State Warriors 123-122.

Smith began to walk off the court, thinking the game was over; however the official made the call that sent him to the line with three free throws.

In the loss, Ellis scored 32 points, including a 10-foot jumper with 15.2 seconds remaining that gave the Warriors the lead.

Kenyon Martin led the Nuggets with a season-high 27 points and 13 rebounds, despite playing without the services of Carmelo Anthony, Chris Andersen, Chauncey Billups and then lost rookie Ty Lawson to an ankle injury during the game.

Corey Maggette scored a season-high 35 points, while Stephen Curry added 27 for the Warriors, who lost for the eighth consecutive time on the road.

The Warriors last win away from Oracle Arena came on December 9, when they defeated the New Jersey Nets at the Izod Center.
