Colorado – The San Jose Stealth only needed to win tonight to ensure a playoff berth. They fought hard and won that playoff berth today. Colorado did not go down easy, as this one went into a nail-biting overtime period that was sudden death, win or lose on the first goal.

San Jose’s captain Colin Doyle and the rookie Rhys Duch were both chasing records tonight, Rhys Duch would find his, as he hit the all time rookie record for points in a season, hitting 85 points tonight. Doyle needs just 1 more assist to break the high assists record for the season.

Colorado would come out strong, putting 4 goals up in the first quarter to San Jose’s 1 goal. San Jose would come back hard in the second period, which is statistically their weakest quarter, outscoring Colorado 5-2, ending the quarter at 6-6. Look ahead, this game would be close to the end.

Game play would go back and forth most of the third quarter, but Colorado would end up putting 2 goals on the boards to go into the fourth quarter 8-6.

The fourth quarter was where the action would heat up, San Jose caught up to the Mammoth by the 3rd minute, and the game would go back and forth until scoring started again in the 12th.

With time running down, Colorado’s Ray Guze would get a fast transition goal, beating the San Jose defense team running out to the field. Colin Doyle equalized 2 minutes later for San Jose, bringing the score to 9-9 with a few minutes left.

Colorado would stun the crowds with a goal that beat Richards at 14:08, giving San Jose one last shot to equalize. Equalize they would, Colin Doyle would silence Colorado’s home crowd as he put it in with 22 seconds remaining.

The Game would go into sudden death overtime. The play went back and forth for over 7 minutes, neither team giving an inch, shutting down almost all shots on the net. Rhys Duch would end the game though, as he ripped one by the keeper at 7:42 in overtime.

San Jose plays one more game next week on the road against the Toronto Rock at 4pm on Saturday the 18th.
