San Jose - The San Jose Stealth started a two game weekend against the Portland Lumberjax at the HP Pavilion in San Jose. San Jose was looking to get some revenge on the Portland Lumberjax for the early season loss. It would not be today. Portland would win 14-12.
San Jose controlled a large part of the first quarter, putting more shots on the boards, but the quarter ended up in a tie. San Jose was leading 2-1 until 13 minutes in, where the Stealth hesitated after what they thought was a foul against Doyle where he got planted into the ground. The defense didn’t get back and Portland’s top goal scorer Cory Conway quickly converted that into a goal.
The second quarter saw Portland step it up big time. Or was it that San Jose just fell apart? Portland quickly turned the intensity up and scored a rush of goals. San Jose broke the scoreless drought before the quarter ended, but at that time it was 4-7.
San Jose was not done for though. They came out of half time with some serious goal scoring in mind. Rhys Duch opened it up with a fast goal, followed up with Martin, and yet another Duch goal. The third goal: Rhys Duch had just run in, caught a pass, and fired a long rocket at the Jax keeper, sailing it by him into the side of the net. Rhys Duchs was not done yet, a few minutes later, as the shot clock was about to expire, Duchs fired a low bouncer at the net, and scored his 3rd goal of the quarter.
Wait a minute, it gets better. A few minutes later team captain Colin Doyle put a no look pass to Duchs in the middle, and Duchs put his 4th goal of the quarter in the net. Cam Sedwick would round out an Amazing quarter as San Jose put up 7 goals on the nets. San Jose 11, Portland 7
The fourth quarter was a quarter of penalties for San Jose. 3 minutes into the quarter Eric Martin was ejected from the game for an illegal cross check and misconduct. This put San Jose down a man for just about the entire last quarter. Portland opened up scoring when they were on a power play with 3 stealth players out. With 2 defenders on the turf, not much San Jose could do.
Quickly another goal, and yet another goal came for Portland as they capitalized on the penalties San Jose gave them. With 7 minutes remaining, They had outscored San Jose and taken over the lead with 3 quick goals. San Jose was still a man down because of Eric Martin’s misconduct ejection. San Jose 11, Portland 13 at this point.
With yet another penalty for San Jose, Portland would pull out another goal, putting them up by 3 points. San Jose’s Sedwick would score one more time for the Stealth, but the final score would be 14-12 for the Stealth.
