San Jose, CA - The San Jose Stealth defeated the Edmonton Rush in a tight match, with a score of 11-10. Strong defense from Stealth keeper Matt Roik shut down the Edmonton offense, giving San Jose the chance to win.
Both teams started tonight with a 3-7 record, and San Jose really needed to win to have a decent chance to get to the playoffs.
Edmonton was strong in the first half of the game, as they had a lead of 8-5 going into the third quarter. San Jose’s power trio Cam Sedwick, Colin Doyle and Jeff Zywicki would come together in a couple of power play goals to begin the turnaround.
By the third quarter Edmonton was still leading 10-8, but the momentum was going in San Jose’s favor. The fourth quarter saw three more goals for San Jose and the victory. Last minute efforts from Rabil and Doyle capped it off.
Jeff Zywicki led all scorering with three goals. Matt Roik showcased his defensive abilities today with 38 saves for San Jose, giving no goals up in the fourth quarter.
