San Jose, CA – The San Jose Stealth defeated the Edmonton Rush 16 - 6 today in a home game at the HP Pavilion in San Jose. San Jose’s Cam Sedgwick, the game MVP, put up 4 goals, leading the San Jose offense to a commanding victory.
San Jose opened up the first quarter scoring as San Jose’s Tom Johnson quickly beat the Edmonton keeper 28 seconds into the game. San Jose put 2 more goals up in the first quarter and shut out the Edmonton offense.
San Jose had gone on a 5 goal scoring run before Edmonton finally put one up on the boards. Andy Secore of Edmonton started a 3 goal scoring run at 7:32 in the second quarter. At halftime the score was 5-3 for San Jose.
San Jose started the third quarter with the intensity they showed in the first quarter, and they put up a 4 goal scoring run. This would all but close the game out for Edmonton as San Jose never looked back from there. By the end of the third quarter San Jose was up 11-5.
The fourth quarter was a runaway quarter for San Jose. Feeling the momentum and the inability of Edmonton to score drove the offense to put up goal after goal.
Another key part of San Jose’s success was the performance of goalkeeper Matt Roik. He put up 35 saves and only gave up 6 goals the entire game.
Scorers for San Jose included: Sedgwick 4, Hodgson 2, Doyle 1, Johnson 2, Zywicki 1, Duch 1, Sorensen 1, Turner 1, Martin 1, Rabil 2.
