Sharks unable to come back this time

It was another post-regulation come from behind task for San Jose, but one they could not duplicate against the Nashville Predators in a 4-3 overtime loss Saturday.

David Legwand gave the Predators their first goal and their last as he scored 2:53 past regulation. Teammate Francis Bouillon aided on the play.

It was all Sharks in the scorless first period as they outshot Nashville 19-7.

Legwand’s first goal came about a minute into the second period. He was aided by Patric Hornqvist and Colin Wilson.

San Jose’s Joe Pavelski tied the game with his team-leading ninth goal, his seventh goal in eight games at 4:40. He was helped by Logan Couture and Joe Thornton. Thornton’s seventh assist tied him with Martin Havlat for the team lead.

Havlat then gave the Sharks the lead with his first goal for the team at 9:50 on the power play. He was assisted by Couture and Ryane Clowe. It was Havlat’s third point in two games.

Couture was the lead in San Jose’s third straight goal, which came fifty-two seconds into the third period. He was aided by Pavelski and Thornton’s team-leading eighth assist.

The Predators came back though with two goals in the third period. Hornqvist made it 3-2 at 2:57, helped by Shea Weber and Bouillon’s first assist. Ryan Suter provided another period-ending power play at 5:58 to tie the game. He was helped by Martin Erat and Weber.

The Sharks’ Antti Niemi was back in net, saving 31 of 35 shots.

Game notes: It was Pavelski’s thirteenth point in eight games. Thornton is now tied with Jeremy Roenick for all-time assists at 49th place. San Jose next plays the Los Angeles Kings Monday at 7:30pm.
