It was an atypical game for the San Jose Sharks, compared to their first 2 games, in a 1-0 shutout over the Los Angeles Kings Sunday.
McLellan’s formerly shoot-happy team was outshot for the first time, 21-19.
However, both Coach Todd McLellan and defenseman Rob Blake cited finding “different ways to win.” McLellan continued, “By no means, was it pretty.”
McLellan and goaltender Brian Boucher also commented on getting the 3-game test out of the way.
Fatigue was a factor as well.
Boucher learned he was starting in place of Evgeni Nabokov last night and McLellan remarked he was, “really, really happy for Boucher…Bouche stepped up and he was probably our best player tonight…” Boucher stopped 21 of 21 shots.
Other involvement from the team included Alexei Semenov making his 2008-2009 debut, the second to last of all the Sharks’ players to get ice time, and Lukas Kaspar scoring his first career goal. Marc-Edouard Vlasic got the most ice time out of the Sharks with 25:40.
San Jose is now 3-0 as Blake mentioned shaping playoff teams early in the year.
The Sharks are listening.
