Sharks keep rolling, beat Mighty Anaheim

The San Jose Sharks wrapped up the Pacific Division title with a 3-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks to clinch first place in the division.The Sharks have taken a no prisioners approach and have won 16 of their last 18 games and have left the Ducks in the dust as the Ducks are trailing the first place Sharks in second eight points back.
Anaheim had carried a ten game home win streak into the Honda Center but the Sharks were just too much shutting off any offense that the Ducks might have. The Sharks win their first Paciifc title since the 2003-04 season.
The Sharks gave Evegeni Nabokov the night off in goal and went with Brian Boucher who stopped 23 shots by the Ducks. The Sharks Jeremy Roenick and Curtis Brown both scored goals in the second period to help the Sharks in the lead. Boucher honed his skills as he has allowed only three goals in four games that he's played for San Jose since the team signed him on February 26th.
Jonas Hiller started his fourth straight game in place of Duck starter Jean Sebastien-Giguere. Gigurere is still out with back spasms. Gigurere says he should be ready by the first week of April the Ducks medical staff are keeping an close eye on his rehab.
Roenick's goal came at 11:10 in the second period to help the Sharks move ahead by a goal and take a 2-1 lead and then Brown added frosting or ice to the cake as it were with a goal of his own at 17:06 in the second period for a 3-1 Sharks lead.
Ralph's final Sharks notes: The game started off with a Patrck Marleau goal his 17th of the year at 6:38 in the first period giving the Sharks a 1-0 lead. The Ducks Scott Niedermayer fired one in past Boucher at 11:09 for his 8th goal of the season to tie it up.
The Sharks win the season series against the Mighty Ducks for a 3-2-3 tally. The Sharks take Saturday the 29th off before returning home against the Phoenix Coyotes on Sunday night at HP Pavilion for a 5:00PM PDT face off.
The Sharks lost to the Coyotes in their last meeting in a close show down a 5-4 decision at Glendale Arena on Tuesday the 25th.
The San Jose Sharks signed a sophmore college player Matt Jones from Merrimack College (East College) Jones 22, was first at Merrimack with 15 goals and 124 shots and was second in points on the club. Jones finished 22nd of all eastern players with 19 points. "We are excited to have Matt in our organization, head coach Mark Dennehy and his staff have done a great job with the Merrimack program and Matt's progress as a hockey player which his performance is a testament to that." said Wilson in a conference call from Anaheim.
