Saturday, the Sabercats returned home and rebounded from their opening game thrashing to demolish the Las Vegas Gladiators 66-31.
Squeezed between the `Cat’s ring ceremony before the game and a Smashmouth concert after, San Jose’s Mark Grieb threw for six touchdowns, 275 yards on 23-31 passing. Calvin Schexnayder found himself on the receiving end of three of Grieb’s scoring passes, on his way to a 11 reception and 131 yard game.
The Sabercats got off to a quick start when Grieb and Schexnayder connected on the opening drive. Las Vegas turned over the ensuing kick-off setting up the first of two rushing touchdowns for the `Cats’ Matt Kinsinger.
Looking to even-up their record at 1-1, the Sabercats never took their foot off the gas and dominated the rest of the match.
On the other side of the ball, the Gladiators’ Clint Dolezel threw four touchdowns but also threw up two interceptions. One of Vegas’ most explosive players, Marcus Nash, caught two touchdowns but was force to leave the game with an injury in the second quarter.
Sunday, the Sabercats travel to New Orleans to take on the Voodoo, who are also 1-1 on the young season.
