The Sabercats looked like a team coming off a Championship hangover cruising into 63-33 thrashing by the Storm at the St. Pete Times Arena in Tampa Bay.
San Jose was completely outmatched on both sides of the ball. The Storm stalled six of the `Cats offensive drives, including two interceptions. Storm quarterback, Shane Stafford had an outstanding performance throwing for eight touchdowns and 273 yards on 28-35 passing.
Conversely, Mark Grieb-who had been a free agent after last season’s Championship run returned to an uncharacteristically impotent performance that saw him throw for only two touchdowns, 298 yards an interception and was caught in the endzone for a safety late in the game.
Tampa Bay took early command of the contest when they won the coin toss and deferred to receive in the second half. The Storm followed up the often used AFL tactic by forcing a turnover on the Sabercats’ opening drive.
The Storm returned the turnover for their first score which led to a 35-14 lead by the end of the half.
The 30-point defeat was the third worst in Sabercat history and the worst since May 29, 1999 when Iowa edged out the `Cats 34-30.

Next Saturday the Sabercats will receive the Championship rings before they host the Las Vegas Gladiators at 6:00 PM at the HP Pavilion. The game will be followed by a contest by Smashmouth.
