Two weeks ago, the Redwoods defended their home-turf in their home debut against the New York Sentinels. On Thursday, the Redwoods continued their mastery of the Sentinels defeating them 20-13 in their own home-opener.

California’s Quarterback Shane Boyd and Running Back Cory Ross led the way as the `Woods took a 17-3 lead in the second quarter and withstood a 10-point run by the Sentinels to end the half and into the third quarter.

Boyd went 18-23, for 192 yards with one touchdown and one interception, which led to New York’s first touchdown. Boyd also racked up 37 yards rushing on eight carries, with a score. Meanwhile, Ross, who is emerging as a star in this new league, carried the ball 23 times for 79 yards and had 63 yards on seven receptions, with one touchdown.

On the other side of the field, QB Quinn Gray had 230 yards and a touchdown on 22-32 passing. New York’s Craphonso Thorpe led all receivers with 93 yards and nine receptions.

The victory keeps the Redwoods (2-2) in line to compete for a shot at the Championship game. Florida (3-0) has the best record and seemingly has their ticket punched, will be taking on the Las Vegas Locomotives (1-2) tomorrow night. The Locos come to California in two weeks when they will take on the Redwoods at Spartan Stadium in San Jose on November 14 at 6:00 p.m.
