Five days after winning their first game, the California Redwoods were demolished by the Florida Tuskers 34-7. The two teams seemed evenly matched in the scoreless first quarter, but the Tuskers quickly took over in the second period, behind the play of two NFL veterans you’ve probably at least heard of: Running Back Michael Pittman and Quarterback Brooks Bollinger.
The `Woods were forced to punt on their first possession of the second quarter, which set up a six-play run-dominated drive that Pittman capped off with a touchdown. Cory Ross fumbled the ensuing kick-off, the second of five California turnovers and the rout was on.
Florida scored 27 unanswered points before running back Cory Ross finally found pay dirt for California. The Redwoods used both Mike McMahon and Shane Boyd at Quarterback, who combined for 9 completions in 30 attempts, for 101 yards with two interceptions each. The Redwoods offense managed to put up only 196 total yards to go along with their five turnovers.
On the other hand Bollinger had a nice night passing for 17-24 and 224 yards, with two touchdowns. Bollinger, who is the early league-leader in passing yards (535), yards per game (267.5), completion percentage (76%), touchdowns (7) and completions (44) and has captained the UFL’s only 3-0 team.
California’s Ross entered the game leading the UFL in rushing, but was held to only 59 yards and one touchdown.
The UFL also announced a change in venue for one of the Redwoods upcoming home games. Instead of playing at AT&T Park on Thursday, November 14, the Las Vegas Locos game will be hosted at Spartan Stadium in San Jose. The home finale, on November 19 will still be held at AT&T Park. Both games start at 6:00 p.m.
Next Thursday, the Redwoods travel to Giants Stadium to take on the New York Sentinels.
